What happens if a card payment fails Print

  • declined, failed payment, card declined, overdue, retry, expired card

Cards get declined for ordinary reasons: the card expired, it was replaced after a fraud alert, or the bank flagged the charge. Here is what happens and how to fix it.

  • We try your card about 5 days before the invoice is due.
  • If the charge fails, we email you, and we try again once a week for up to 5 weeks.
  • The invoice stays Unpaid until it is paid. Please pay it as soon as you can to avoid any interruption to your services.

How to fix it

  1. Add your current card and click Set as default. See Update your credit card and make it your default.
  2. Open the unpaid invoice under Billing > My Invoices and click Pay Now to pay it with the new card. This step matters: changing your default card does not move an invoice that already exists onto the new card.
  3. If your bank declined a card that should work, call the number on the back of the card and ask them to allow the charge, then try again.
